I spent 2 hours waiting at Buffalo Wild Wings yesterday before leaving, so excuse me for not sharing my thoughts going into the game.
Some thoughts on last night:
- Huet played his first bad game in a while. It happens. Oh well. This is the nature of hockey. He'll bounce back. No need to panic.
- How about that pass Versteeg made to Fraser to set up the goal. That kid's got some skill.
- Kane has 7 goals in his last 5 games. He's on a tear and I hope it lasts for a long, long time, then takes a break for the Olympics, and then comes back for the playoffs.
Moving on, today is Canadian Olympic Announcement Day. I'd like to see Keith and Toews both make the team with Seabrook going as the extra D-man. I think Seabs could use the rest while still getting the big stage experience and practice with some big guns. I'll update after the roster is announced with my thoughts on who gets picked.
There has been some talk over at Second City Hockey about the Hawks trading for Kovalchuk. I think its something that can be great for both teams given the right deal is set up. I'll have a post up within the next couple days that delves into that a little more.
The Devils will be celebrating New Years in Chicago. I won the Dream Team contest from the Blackhawks website last week. Can't be more excited. Watching Marty Brodeur play last year in person was awesome. He is just on another planet in terms of talent and you really don't understand it till you see it live.
UPDATE: Keith, Seabrook, Toews all made Team Canada. Sharp was left out, and you can't really argue with that decision. Toews was announced as the last forward. Don't look into that too much though. Injuries will happen before February so the key here is just being on the list because you never know what will happen. It will be interesting to see if Keith and Seabrook get paired together and who they play against. Playing top pairing times could really take its toll when the Hawks will really need them in the spring.
