That's the Way the Cookie Crumbles: Sharks 2 - Hawks 1 OT

Written by Andrew Bernier on .

Sorry for the delayed recap.  Had a few things come up last minute.  Anywhoozle, let's dive in, shall we?

I wasn't exactly the most confident person going into the game against the Sharks.  They're still a damn good team.  Scott and Hendry filling in for Hossa and Kane can best be described as "barf-tastic."  All things considered, the result was much better than anticipated.

The Hawks and Sharks played three of the most evenly played periods I can recall.  The shot totals favored the Sharks by only one after regulation.  The first and third period totals were exactly the same and the Sharks got their one shot edge in the 2nd.  We saw some spectacular saves from both Crawford and Niemi, and I'd argue Crawner (named after the massive boners people are getting over his really solid play) was the better netminder on the night.

Unfortunately, none of that really mattered as the third period came to a close at a tie.  Hendry got the lone tally for the Hawks on a wraparound.  Everyone who placed that bet can collect their winnings at the window.  Really hope you parlayed it with Scott and Dowell being the only other Hawks with a point.

Ryane Clowe got a tip-in while crashing the net for the Sharks first goal.  He must have been listening to Edzo.  He would also get the game winner in OT on a great play.   He received the one timer pass in his skates and managed to still get the shot off before Crawner was able to react and move cross-crease.

Notes:
Stalberg got robbed, but that's just the way the puck bounces some times.  The ref admitted to making the wrong call after the game, but his job is to blow the whistle when he loses sight of the puck.  Can't really fault him for it.  Its really easy to make that mistake with the speed of the game.
Skille was a monster.  7 shots on goal in 15 minutes of ice time almost always makes for a few dents in the net.  Again, luck swings both ways and some times it all swings against your team.
I think the Hawks just won another faceoff.  My word.  Toews was 12 for 17 and only lost one of seven in the defensive zone.  Sharp was 13 for 18.  Even Dave Bolland was like "fuck this losing faceoffs stuff" and won 52% of his draws.
Craw has his best game in a while and loses his wins streak.  THIS IS WHY GOALIE WINS MEAN NOTHING.
Picked up a point.  Getting a win against the Avs will be really big.
